Jeffrey Rathbun was appointed to the position of Assistant Principal Oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra in 1990. Prior to his current position he was associated with the Atlanta, San Francisco, Oakland, and Honolulu Symphony Orchestras. As an award-winning soloist, Mr. Rathbun’s many honors include first prize at the 1988 Lucarelli International Competition for Solo Oboe Players held in New York City. He made his Carnegie Hall recital debut at Weill Recital Hall in the spring of 1990. Mr. Rathbun has also been featured as a concerto soloist with the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra, the Oakland Symphony, the Oakland Philharmonia, and the Abilene Philharmonic. Jeffrey Rathbun holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas, where he studied with Charles Veazey and a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with John Mack. He is the oboe professor at Kent State University. Mr. Rathbun’s compositions are published by Theodore Presser, and have been performed by members of the Cleveland Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Atlanta Symphony, as well as the Cleveland-based chamber music ensemble Myriad (of which he is also a member).
